«Coalition and opposition or parliamentary majority and minority?» - interns looked for an answer during parliamentary debate

On April 26, constitutional-regulatory debate “Coalition and opposition or parliamentary majority and minority?” took place in the Verkhovna Rada. The event was organized by NGO “Interns’ League” in cooperation with USAID RADA Program, implemented by East Europe Foundation.

Four teams of participants of the Parliamentary Internship Program 2017  took part in debates having previously completed their line-ups through draw. Each team elected its leader, speaker and note taker as well as trainer from among the former MPs.

Two overall topics were suggested for discussion:

A. Coalition and opposition or majority and minority being indispensable for efficient functioning of the Parliament these days?!

B. How are these two types of political parliamentary frameworks to be regulated within Ukrainian day-to-day realities?

MP of the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th convocations Volodymyr Stretovych took on the role of facilitator of the debate, whilst the trainers were:

  • Borys Bespalyi, MP 0f 3rd, 4th ,5th  convocations;
  • Volodymyr Kryzhanivskyi, MP of the 1st convocation;
  • Elina Shyshkina, MP of the 6th convocation;
  • Oleksandr Zaslavskyi, Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Legislative Initiatives.
